Hi chomi,
You know how when you’re in a Bolt or Uber the GPS sometimes takes the road you personally would never have chosen? Like why must we go past Ext 8 just to get to Ext 2 when we could have just gone up the Main Road, turned left at the shop that sells fire Mayo then turned left at the school, you get? Why must we drive past the stadium and the church - when they are clearly on the far left and the destination is on the right?
Well, sometimes there’s a funeral procession of a beloved elder as you are headed on the shortest, sharpest, most direct route. Then you have to have to wait in the car for a good twenty minutes because those cars drive by at a snail's pace, and honestly those people in the convoy- sorry hun- are not worried about people with places to be like you. You either wait it out or reroute.
Life will chuck things you never planned for at you, okare a thunderstorm pelting raindrops down with a fury that may have you reconsidering many things… like maybe you should just go back to bed instead of trying to go visit your bestie.
Anyway - so life is unpredictable and being able to adapt is important. Matric is great and if academics are your strong suit, moghel, then absolutely go that route. But if you were not doing so great at school and feeling demotivated, or simply not thriving in the traditional academic system - mntase- it may be just time for that reroute.
Chomi, le government recognizes this. So much so that after Grade 9, learners can pursue accredited alternative pathways instead of being forced through an academic system that often leaves them disengaged and discouraged.
Consider the Certificate in Digital Entrepreneurship (NQF Level 4).
It is a SETA-accredited, Matric-equivalent qualification, but unlike traditional schooling, it focuses on real-world, high-value skills such as:
This is a standalone qualification, completed in one year, and it opens multiple future pathways:
Many young people today don’t want degrees — they want skills, income, and purpose. Uya bo le is a credible, structured, and motivating alternative to Matric. Game over for who? This may be the reroute to the best version of yourself. Bangene ntwana!
